“The plants have enough spirit to transform our limited vision."

- Rosemary Gladstar

In the midst of a global pandemic we can find calm, quiet, renewed energy, and answers in nature.  We can walk out our doors, or open our windows and turn our faces to the sun.  We can listen to the rushing of the wind, feel the grass or bare earth with our feet, enjoy the sunshine pouring down through clearer skies, or laugh at the rain soaking our skin.  The earth is getting a tiny respite from the onslaught of human activities right now, and it is always present as our beloved home to encourage and sustain us.  We see this strength
with trees that are buffeted and gnarled through storms and drought, but when the roots are strong, the tree can withstand the challenges.

We are being challenged in the most foundational ways with this pandemic, and yet we are discovering just how deeply our roots go these days.  We are resourceful, creative, resilient human beings that are having to draw deeply on all of our foundations.  This may be faith, family, friends, community, children, music, art, writing…  Yet nature is where we find our strength if we allow the time and opportunity.  Humans have evolved together with the plant world and our bodies understand the relationship.  We have allowed ourselves to
become so removed from nature in many ways, but when we take the time to return to our natural environment, the solace and healing that we receive is instantaneous.

The daily walk has become essential to our well-being in Montana, and offers sunshine and Vitamin D, fresh air to fill our lungs, “forest bathing” with the scent of juniper and Douglas Fir, and the various shades of green that are the antidote to screen time.  We may need to get a bit creative depending on our location, but nature is here for us to appreciate and treasure.  At the very least we can use our essential oils from the tree sources to calm and ground us on a daily basis.  Combined with citrus oils, we benefit from uplifting qualities
along with the balance that roots us.  We gain so many benefits from the grasses, herbs, flowers, fruits, and seeds, and we can spend time planting a garden, enjoying fresh flowers, or just sprout plants in a pot on a windowsill.  Every little gesture can make a huge positive difference.

However you decide to access nature at this difficult time, it is essential to increase the time we spend with the plant world.  The plants truly do have the power to transform our lives!  Wishing you all health and healing at this time…

Warmly,
Maria
